The things almost everyone misses
Ranked by how many of the checked sites trip on them.
FAQ or Q&A-style content that AI tools can lift and cite when someone asks a related question.
An optional HTTP header that limits what can run on the page, reducing cross-site-scripting risk.
A 'skip to content' link that lets keyboard users bypass the menu.
Whether links are valid and not pointing to broken or suspicious destinations.
A logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) that organizes content for readers and crawlers.
Whether images use modern formats (WebP/AVIF) that load faster than older JPG/PNG.
The preview image shown when the link is shared. Links with images get far more clicks.
The single top-level headline that tells visitors and search engines what the page is about.

About this data
Each site is scored by the same Findability Check anyone can run — seven weighted categories covering search, AI readiness, social, mobile, structure, accessibility, and security. The benchmark draws on real small business websites across the U.S. — local restaurants, shops, auto and home services, medical and professional practices, and independent makers, spanning small and mid-size cities — and grows with every public check. It's a real but non-random sample, not a national census, and individual sites are never published, only the aggregate.
