Monday Rand Fishkin make a great post on the SEOmoz blog titled “Perfecting Keyword Targeting & On-Page Optimization“. I usually pass over these on-page checklists as it seems they are a dime a dozen and usually there’s a lot of opinion that over shadows the core principles. This article really stuck out of the crowed as one of the best guides to on-page search engine optimization that I’ve ever seen. His use of graphics and charts is a perfect example of how to make boring day-to-day content into valuable link bait.
Hat’s off to Rand for not only providing a great article but writing it in such a way that it’s optimized and enjoyable to read. It’s got everything;
- intriguing keyword rich title
- good use of secondary headers to break up the content
- bullet points
- graphs
- personality but not too much
Not only does it provide a good structured list of data but Rand incorporates a lot of SEOmoz’s own research data into the guide.
