I’m excited to see that MajesticSEO just introduce a beta version of their new site explorer (not the most original name. See: opensiteexplorer.org & siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com). I’ve been a big fan of majesticseo.com’s tools for years now. I don’t think anyone would argue that they have the largest database of backlink data available. This makes it a great tool for nearly anyone in the SEO industry. If you’re not using it now, you should be. I want to review the new layout and features available on the Majestic SEO Site Explorer.

In the following screenshots I used example.com: https://www.majesticseo.com/reports/site-explorer/summary/example.com

Improved Backlink Data Layout

MajesticSEO now presents the backlink data in a much simpler and easy to read interface, giving you a quick snapshot of any sites backlink profile. This is great information for an SEO professional but would be information overload for most SEO clients. I would be careful on how you may present this data to a client.

Same Great Backlink History Graphs

For those of you familure with the backlink history graphs this isn’t anything new. For those of you who are not these graphs represent the number of discovered links per month. If you click on these graphs you’ll get additional features like the ability to compare the backlink discovery of multiple domains as well as view it comulatively(my favorite view). It would be nice if they’d allow you to change the defult view on the site explorer page.

Quickly See the 5 Top Backlinks

Again this isn’t a new feature just an improved layout, which the site explorer page does well, giving you a summary of all the data available. In this section you are presented with the top 5 backlinks(Based on MajestiSEOs AC Rank) for the entered domain. This can allow you to also check out some of your(or a client’s) backlinks as well as spy on a competitors top backlinks. This feature can be extremely useful for a link builder.

Referring Domains Visual

This little diagram shows some of the reffering domains that link to the entered site the most. For one reason or another these domains link to the entered site many times. Not the prettiest looking diagram but it does the job.

Most Popular Pages

The final feature you’ll find on MajesticSEO’s site explorer page are the top pages(Based on MajesticSEO’s ACRank). Now you’ll be able to see what your most popular pages are based on their backlinkd ata.

Overall the tool is great! Can’t really complain too much considering all the data that they provide for FREE! If I had any criticisms, is some of the data could be a little nicer looking and a PDF version of this report would be great. Keep up the good work MajesticSEO.

OK you finally got your domain name and new website design launched, now what? How do you start getting people to your website? Honestly, developing a successful website, like any business project, takes a lot of hard work. This list will get you started down that path and on your way to building an online presence by instantly getting new links to your website.
Learn more about link building.

1. Diagnose and Monitor Your Website

In order to measure the success of your website you need tools to monitor traffic and search engine indexing errors. Google not only has some of the most well respected monitoring tools but they’re also FREE! Installing Google Analytics will allow you to monitor visitors to your website and measure its success, while Google Webmaster Tools shows you how Google views your site and helps diagnose problems.

2. Start with Your Friends and Business Connections.

Who better to give you honest feedback and share your new website than your friends and business connections? Post a link to your new website on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN and any other social network, message board or blog you are already involved in; then ask those connections to share it with their connections.

3. Now Share Your New Website Design With Strangers!

You’ve shared your new website with people you know… now share it with people you don’t. There are dozens of websites who want to share your new website design. These sites are primarily made up of web designers and developers who are looking for inspiration and something new to share with their connections. If you feel your design is the kind to show off, then consider submitting it to these design galleries.

4. Bookmark It!

I’m sure you have some of your favorite websites bookmarked on your browser, but that only helps you know your favorite websites. There are many websites that allow you to save your bookmarks online and share them with others who share the same interests. See a list of these sites and bookmark your site today!

5. Make a News Annoucement.

You’ve launched a new website… isn’t that worth talking about? Make an announcement using free online press release websites. Not only will these give your website quality links but also get your news on popular platforms like Google News.

Now don’t stop here! Keep creating online content worth sharing and don’t forget to monitor visitors from these sites with Google Analytics.

I was recently putting together a manual link building guide. The guide was developed to go through the process of how to find potential links using a number of different tools and strategies. Once I got the reader to understand each way to find the links I needed to also provide a way for them to analyze the page to ensure by getting a link there it would provide some sort of benefit to the rank of the website within search engines.

In the past I’ve used a number of tools and plugins to determine this but it wasn’t till recently that I found the perfect tool to fit this task perfectly. This tool was FoxyRank for firefox.

Foxy rank gives you insight into how valuable a link from a page may be by looking at how many internal and exnternal links there are, if the page is allowing pagerank to pass (use of nofollow), what the current PageRank is and more. I could write a lot more but instead I put together a short video explaining how you can use this tool.

I was recently asked what is the most important factor when building links? It seemed like a simple enough question but then I realized it was going to take some real though to think of the single most important factor.

Link building factors that came to mind;

Does the page you’re getting a link from have PageRank?

How many other links are on the page?

Does the site appear to be trustworthy?

Is the page relevant?

How long will it take me to require the link?

Can I use anchor text?

Analyzing Hundreds of Factors

These where just some of the factors that came to my mind right away. As with any part of SEO there is no single factor. The truth is there are hundreds of SEO factors and a lot of it comes down to a sixth sense that is acquired after doing SEO for a while. After creating your own sites and analyzing others you can quickly see strong and weak points on your sites and the sites which link to you.

So What is the Most Important Factor?

If I was forced to pick the single most important factor when building links I would have to say relevancy. The reason for this choice is because this is exactly what search engines are trying to provide to their users whether it’s Google, Bing or Twitter search they all want to provide the best answer to the users query so that the user continues to use their service. If you ensure that your website is relevant and the links to your website are also relevant then you’re on your way to building a strong online presence.

I want to encourage discussion on my blog and I know since my blog is very focused on SEO that I’ll probably get people looking for followed links(or dofollow). Of course I can’t just let every comment have a dofollow link because then I would be bombarded with comments with little or no value. Here’s the compromise I came up with; I will review each comment and if I find the comment to be valuable and the link to be trustworthy I’ll make your comment link a dofollow. So please take the time to read my posts and give your feedback.

This is an old post from my last site that I thought was worth revising. It’s a collection of highly important websites that offer free backlinks.

This is a collection of websites, that offer free backlinks, any commercial website should be listed on. When choosing these websites they had to meet three criteria; high page rank, authority and trustability. In addition to the three criteria I wanted to list websites of different categories including; local listings, website directories, social networks, bookmarking sites and information syndication. These sites are all very sought-after so many of your competitors are already listed. These backlinks come from high page rank sites, ranging from PR6 to PR8.

Google Local (PR 8/10) – Google maps is quickly becoming the most widely used and accessible mapping applications. By listed your website in Google local you get additional search engine rankings within Google search results. Also it allows customers to post reviews of your business and these can be very valuable to potential clients.

Yahoo Local (PR 7/10) – Yahoo has been around for a very long time and shows no signs of stopping. This has the same benefits as Google Local plus a few more bells and whistles.

Dmoz (PR 8/10) – The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory found on the Web. If your website makes it into this directory this gives your domain a boost in overall trust. It may take anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months before your website shows up so please be patient.

LinkedIn (PR 8/10) – LinkedIn is a fast growing social network for business professionals. A link isn’t the only thing that can be valuable to your business you can network with other business and find potential clients. Get you and your co-workers on this network and you could have a few links in no time.

mixx (PR 7/10) – This is one of the most popular social bookmarking sites out there and it doesn’t hurt that it has high page rank and the links pass juice. Social Bookmarking is a great way to syndicate/promote your website content and have it quickly crawled by search engines.

Building links is essential to your strength within major search engines. By placing a link to your website on these major authorities you can get your website on highly important websites. Each link will count as a boost in your overall web authority and Google page rank but your SEO doesn’t end there. Make sure your website has a plan and presence to keep it’s importance relevant and on-going.

I’m going to step back from thinking about keyword usage, page structure and other on-page elements for moment and talk about something I always think about when doing anything for a client or myself… LINKS!

Even before Google’s algorithm came around, links were still a very important part of increasing your online visibility. Just ask link building expert Eric Ward who’s been building links since 1994. Before search engines became your internet portal people would travel from one site to another through links and nearly every website had a page dedicated to linking to related pages or sites the webmaster just happened to like.

Link and be Linked to
Those days are long gone and having a page just for external links is usually frowned upon by SEOs and search engines, but don’t let that get you down. When you’re making your next blog post, filling our your next social media profile or making your next forum post remind yourself to think links. Every contribution you make online is an oportunity for a link or to build a relationship for a potential link in the near future. When publishing content to your website don’t be afraid to link to other websites as a reference(as long as they are trust worthy) because they may find out and link to you in-return.

Set Link Goals
Like many, you probably spend an hour or two reading and contributing online. Try this; make a note to keep links in mind and look for 1, 2, 3 or 4 link opportunities a day; dofollow or nofollow.

Let me know how it goes!
