While I loved that Google provided links to answers.com for some search quires they stopped using it in December 2009. They’ve replaced it with Google Dictionary (http://www.google.com/dictionary) and at first it seemed like a logical step in the right direction. It does make more sense from Google’s point of view to use their own technology to return results.
The problem I’m having with it, is when I did a search today for “SEO definition” I had a very strange result. New Google Definition Update, Not So Smart? continued »

Over the past year we’ve been working hard, at Eyeflow Internet Marketing, on a new SEO scoring tool. The problem we had is the existing SEO tools weren’t; consistent, accurate or used outdated or incorrect data. We’ve worked really hard to try to get fast and accurate feedback for your website. It’s been tested across hundreds of domains.
I’m very happy to say that today we’ve launched the new SEO tool to the public and I can’t wait to get some feedback.

About 3 months ago I decided to do a little SEO experiment. My goal was to find a way I could get a site built, hosted and search engine friendly without spending a dime. The results are in and besides the worth of my time I didn’t spend any money. Using weebly’s website builder I was able to quickly publish a website then I used dot.tk to get the free domain chrishornak.tk. Weebly aloud me to use my freedomain, install google analytics, setup a blog. No Budget SEO Experiment Conclusion continued »

Lastnight I was reading “Crush it” by Gary Vaynerchuk, who’s known for using social media to grow his brand and wine library tv. While I was reading it I came to a section where he was talking about choosing a blog platform. The two he really focused on was wordpress, which was no surprise, and tubmlr, which was a surprise. He mentioned that with tumblr you could use your own domain and tumblr would host it for free.
I quickly went to my computer and setup a tumblr account. It was easy to use and took very little time to get started. I then asked myself “could I use this to quickly setup a search engine friendly website with no budget.
After a quick search I found that dot.tk allows you to register a free domain with no ads and found that weebly.com allowed you to make a more flexable website. Tumblr is great but it seemed to be aimed at blogging and social media rather than a static website for businesses.
This is what got me to setup what I’m calling the weebly seo experiment. Visit the website for the latest updates.

Subscribe to Major Search Engine Blogs
Part of being an SEO professional is keeping up to date with major search engine updates. To keep things simple I’m just going to talk about tracking Google’s algorithm updates. Of course one of the best places to start is the official Google blog. Subscribe to the feed using an RSS reader like Google Reader. I attempt to read through my RSS feeds everyday, prioritizing each feed into specific categories. The official search engine blog sites are the first ones I read everyday then I work my way down my list; advanced SEO blogs, basic SEO news, social media news, webmaster news, etc. This way I get the most important updates (algorithm changes) first. I was recently putting together a manual link building guide. The guide was developed to go through the process of how to find potential links using a number of different tools and strategies. Once I got the reader to understand each way to find the links I needed to also provide a way for them to analyze the page to ensure by getting a link there it would provide some sort of benefit to the rank of the website within search engines.
In the past I’ve used a number of tools and plugins Analyzing the Ability to Pass PageRank or Link Juice continued »

Recently I’ve been collecting online resources that look deeper into the science behind search engines. Here are some of the papers I’ve read that I felt like really provided me with a much deeper insight into SEO. When you start out learning about search engine’s optimization you get caught up in many of the tips and tricks that are found all over the internet but after a while you start to learn which resources to trust and then you start reading between the lines. The next logical step is to start researching the history of search engines and the science behind their inner workings. 8 Advanced Search Engine Research Papers continued »
