Recently I’ve been collecting online resources that look deeper into the science behind search engines.  Here are some of the papers I’ve read that I felt like really provided me with a much deeper insight into SEO.  When you start out learning about search engine’s optimization you get caught up in many of the tips and tricks that are found all over the internet but after a while you start to learn which resources to trust and then you start reading between the lines.  The next logical step is to start researching the history of search engines and the science behind their inner workings. Monday Rand Fishkin make a great post on the SEOmoz blog titled Perfecting Keyword Targeting & On-Page Optimization.  I usually pass over these on-page checklists as it seems they are a dime a dozen and usually there’s a lot of opinion that over shadows the core principles.  This article really stuck out More

I often get asked by younger individuals what courses they should take if they want to get into the field of search engine optimization and internet marketing. Currently there are very few institutions that offer SEO courses and since there are very few clearly defined standards for SEO More

Twitter is Down… what are we to do?

I got into work today, read through my emails and rss subscriptions. I found an article I wanted to share on twitter only to find out that twitter is down.  It’s been an hour and a half and it’s still down. I thought of the next closest thing to a live search and did a google blog search for twitter down. Twitter has become a great way to get the word out about something going on in the world but what happens when that something is twitter? Let’s hope it’s not because of a hack.

How I Manage My Blog Comment Links

I want to encourage discussion on my blog and I know since my blog is very focused on SEO that I’ll probably get people looking for followed links(or dofollow). Of course I can’t just let every comment have a dofollow link because then I would be bombarded with comments with little or no value. Here’s the compromise I came up with; I will review each comment and if I find the comment to be valuable and the link to be trustworthy I’ll make your comment link a dofollow. So please take the time to read my posts and give your feedback. More

9 Important Backlinks for Commercial Websites

This is an old post from my last site that I thought was worth revising. It’s a collection of highly important websites that offer free backlinks.

This is a collection of websites, that offer free backlinks, any commercial website should be listed on. When choosing these websites they had to meet three criteria; high page rank, authority and trustability. In addition to the three criteria I wanted to list websites of different categories including; local listings, website directories, social networks, bookmarking sites and information syndication. These sites are all very sought-after so many of your competitors are already listed. These backlinks come from high page rank sites, ranging from PR6 to PR8. More

Think Links!

I’m going to step back from thinking about keyword usage, page structure and other on-page elements for moment and talk about something I always think about when doing anything for a client or myself… LINKS!

Even before Google’s algorithm came around, links were still a very important part of increasing your online visibility. Just ask link building expert Eric Ward who’s been building links since 1994.  More
